Welcome to our journey. First, let me tell you a bit about my family. My name is Kandy and I am the mother of 3 wonderful little boys. I have a wonderful and supportive husband (Christopher). My oldest is Liam, he just recently turned 5 years old. Leo is our middle boy, he just celebrated his 4th birthday. As of April of this year we have little Rowen.
I am very lucky to be able to be a stay at home mom. I am able to watch my boys grow and guide them in a way that I deem needed. I am also a full time student. I am pursuing my bachelors in secondary education from Eastern Michigan University; needless to say we are super busy.
As previously stated we have our 3 boys. Our son Leo is the one that will be the main focus of most of my writings, but everyone will really be involved as Autism touches every member of the family in many ways.
We are just starting the process in getting Leo's official medical diagnoses, but he already has an educational diagnoses. I am not sure if the educational diagnoses is something that is available everywhere, but here in the great state of Michigan, you can have an official diagnoses for school purposes. This diagnoses allows the child to attend school to meet their needs. Leo has a speech and social delay so the educational diagnoses allows for him to attend school to work on these skills, in hopes that he will have a solid structure once Kindergarten arrives.
Through this diagnoses Leo attends a program called LESA ECP. It is the counties educational services Early Childhood program. He is in a class with 11 other children that are on the spectrum whom are also working on certain skills. He attends this program Monday through Thursday during the school year for 1/2 of the day.
As we go through this journey I will be adding as much detail as I possibly can. I want to make sure that if someone isn't sure how to start this process, that it is clear enough in my blog for them to use the information and start the process for themselves.
